What Is the Powersite PSM-HD?
PSM-HD is a handheld X-ray source series developed by the Chinese X-ray generator manufacturer Suzhou Powersite Electric. The one-handed body, integrated touchscreen and wireless exposure control let it work both handheld and stand-mounted.
The series comprises three models, selected according to the anatomy you image:

Which model for which job?
- PSM-HD210S5 (210 W) — the lightest option at under 1.4 kg. Its fine 0.4 mm focal spot favours small-field, high-resolution work: hand, wrist, foot and dental/maxillofacial. Suited to long handheld field sessions and paediatric or extremity-heavy workflows.
- PSM-HD450 (450 W) — the balanced option. Reaching 90 kV takes it past the extremities into shoulder and thicker tissue.
- PSM-HD900 (900 W) — the most powerful in the series. Up to 10 mA and shorter exposure times reduce motion blur in chest and torso imaging; preferred for high-volume screening programmes.
Key Features
- Compact and portable — single-person field setup from a shoulder bag
- Wireless exposure control — remote triggering over WiFi lowers operator dose
- Long battery life — 150+ or 200+ exposures per charge depending on model
- Anatomical touchscreen menu — kV/mA/time presets by body region
- Wide operating temperature — down to −20 °C on the HD450 and HD900
- Dual use — handheld or tripod/stand mounted
Applications
- Occupational health screening — rapid chest PA in a mobile occupational health vehicle (HD900)
- Orthopaedics and emergency — extremity and trauma assessment
- Home healthcare — bedside imaging without patient transfer
- Veterinary clinics — small animal and field work
- Forensic and field teams — locations with no fixed X-ray room
Building the Digital System
PSM-HD is an X-ray source; the image comes from the flat panel detector it is paired with. As the official Turkish distributor for iRay, we deliver turnkey installations:
- iRay Mars 1417V Wireless Flat Panel Detector — the 14×17″ panel most often paired with handheld sources
- iRay Mars 1717V Wireless Flat Panel Detector — 17×17″ general radiography
For panel selection, read our wired vs wireless flat panel detector comparison.
Handheld or Portable Generator?
The handheld PSM-HD series offers maximum freedom of movement; for routine torso radiography that demands higher output, a 1.6 kW class portable generator such as the Poskom AirRay-20 is the better fit. We collected the decision criteria in our portable X-ray selection guide.
Radiation Safety and Regulation
With handheld X-ray units the operator works close to the patient and the beam, so personal protective equipment, a backscatter shield and dosimetry are critical. In Türkiye, installation and use of medical X-ray equipment is subject to authorisation by the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK); Dentem supplies the installation, acceptance testing and licensing documentation.
